The Bruscello
|
It is an ancient tradition of popular
theatre, it represented for centuries from moving companies
of peasants that was guided from the Old one of the Bruscello with
in hand the
Bruscello (that is twig), and they went where they can find peopole,
so they passed in farms or in the public squares or in front of the
Churches at the end of the Saint Messa, they put in scene their rappresentation
for a begging and to obtain a dinner for all the Company.
Rifaring itself probably to the Madrigalist or to the sacred representation
of Jacopone from Todi, the Bruscello
is transformed in the centuries adapting itself to the changes of
the uses and the customs of the society.
The story in rhyme and songs is much essential and without the superfluous
one: a few personages, they have simple characteristics and very defined
and the same one is for the contents, as an example love, hatred,
passion, dead, jealousy, betrayal.

The Bruscellanti
is ollowed in the narration under the guide of the Old one of the
Bruscello that of it guides the times and manages the representation.
The apparel is much simple and made with unexpected attrzzature as
tin helmets and wood swords . The gesture of the Bruscellante accompanies
his voice, that may be now shrill and now serious, to give more expressivity
and animosity to the narration.
It has been handed on orally in the centuries in the campaigns until
arriving to the our days, and today, the Review of the Bruscello Poliziano
is the most important sight for resonance and spectacularity. The
event is in Montepulciano to the half of August, in the church-square
of the Cathedral in Piazza Grande.
