The common of Montepulciano is sititued in the
south part of the province of Siena, to a height of 605 mt. a.s.l.
and it has historically played a strategic role for its position
of border between the Orcia Valley and Chiana Valley.
Its name derives, from Mons,
characteristic of the territory type mount or high hill, and Politianus,
deriving from politicus, name probably given from the Etruscan to
this
Area, according the legend that wants Montepulciano founded from
the
Etruscan king Porsenna who left Chiusi to move on the Mercurius
Mount.
Famous also for being a jewel of the Rinascimentale Art, however
Montepulciano has always associated its name to his wine, just for
the elevated quality of the same.
